Second ESONET workshop

11th - 14th May (Registration by April 20th)

Bremen, Germany

Introduction

ESONET/EMSO has entered a new phase. The demo-missions are underway and it is time to have our next training workshop. This year, you will have the great opportunity to attend an important meeting in Bremen, the OCEANS'09 exhibition, and get introduced to the new demo-missions. Also included and in parallel to the ongoing talks and tutorials of the conference, are practical ESONET/EMSO workshops on planning online experiments at the planned ESONET test sites. This will allow all ESONET partners to carry out small scale experiments in shallow water depth of 20 to 100 m.

The OCEANS'09 exhibition

The OCEANS'09 exhibition will be a great source of information, with associated workshops and tutorials available for you to attend. OCEANS'09 is the world’s leading conference and exhibition in ocean science, engineering, technology and management and has been organised for more than 30 years by the Ocean Engineering Society of the IEEE, the world's largest engineers’ association. The main topics covered are new methods and technologies in ocean exploration. A number of lectures, organized as special topic sessions, will provide an overview of the latest technological and scientific approaches in ocean research, including recent issues on basic research , and utilisation of natural resources. This is supplemented by an international marine technology exhibition, where leading companies present their products and services.

Aim of Second ESONET workshop

The aim of the workshop is two-fold.

Firstly, the workshop is another opportunity for networking within the ESONET community and learn additional aspects of marine science and technology outside the attendees own field, thus reinforcing the multidisciplinary nature of the ESONET project.

Secondly, the workshop will allow attendees to become much better acquainted with the new technologies and sensor systems presented at the OCEANS'09 exhibition. Students and engineer attendees of the ESONET workshop will be asked to submit a short research proposal to be carried out at one of the ESONET demo mission sites - information for this report will be provided during the workshop and from the OCEANS'09 exhibition. Production of this proposal will aid in the attendees future planning of R&D projects. This will be a compulsory part of the workshop and delivery expected six weeks after workshop completion.

Costs:

The course is free for all ESONET members i.e. accommodation and breakfast will be provided free of charge by ESONET from May 11 to 14.
